Can I install these tubes myself?
Yes, in some cases. If your existing light fitting uses a magnetic ballast with a starter, you can usually replace the fluorescent tube yourself by removing the old starter and tube, and inserting the LED starter (if provided) and new LED tube. This is often a plug-and-play replacement.
However, if your fitting has an electronic ballast (without a starter), the ballast must be bypassed. This requires a licensed electrician for safe and compliant installation in New Zealand.
Not sure what type of ballast you have? Check for a removable starter. If present, it’s a magnetic ballast. If not, it may be electronic and require professional rewiring.
