LED Tube Lights NZ – How to Choose the Right Type for Your Space

LED Tube Lights NZ – How to Choose the Right Type for Your Space

Choosing the right LED tube starts with three checks: tube length, fitting/ballast type and the amount of light you need. This guide explains those choices. For current prices and the complete product range, see the GreenLED LED tube lights NZ collection.

1. Choose the Correct LED Tube Length

GreenLED currently stocks the two common full-size tube lengths:

Measure the existing tube before ordering. A 4ft tube will not fit a 5ft fitting and vice versa.

2. Check the Ballast and Wiring

The standard 4ft and 5ft GreenLED tubes include an LED starter for suitable magnetic-ballast fittings. If your fitting uses an electronic ballast, the ballast may need to be bypassed or removed before the LED tube can be used. Any rewiring must be completed by a licensed electrician.

If you are unsure which type you have, see our magnetic vs electronic ballast guide.

3. Compare Brightness, Not Just Watts

Watts tell you power consumption; lumens tell you light output. GreenLED's current range is rated at 1800 lumens for the 4ft tube, 2400 lumens for the standard 5ft tube and 3900 lumens for the premium 5ft tube. The premium model is the better choice when you need substantially more light from a 5ft fitting.

4. Understand the 5000K Light Colour

The current GreenLED tube range is 5000K white. This is a crisp, bright colour commonly used in garages, workshops, offices, storerooms and other task-oriented spaces. It is noticeably cooler than 3000K warm white lighting.
